Excerpt from the blog:
Pat LaMarche Impressive on WLOB This Morning
I liked what she had to say. Some highlights:
- "Dirigo has got to go. Give me 60 million and I'll keep 7,500 people healthy too".
- We need to have tax cuts for individuals and small businesses.
- We need to bring jobs back to our state so young people won't leave.
She sounded more conservative than a lot of Republicans I know.
The difference I see is that she wants 'affordable' universal care while the dems could care less about the 'affordable' part as long as there are taxpayers to fleece.
I have to ask, having heard her, could she do worse than what we have now??
She also talked about jobs being sent overseas, and the state outsourcing jobs was a bad idea.
I don't know, if someone like Peter Mills is nominated for the Republicans, I might have to color in the LaMarche oval on my ballot.
Ray also seemed impressed with her on the radio, and he said she will be back on the show several more times to talk about her campaign.
I think Pat has the potential to reach out to average Maine voter and connect with them. For most of them this campaign will be their first view of her and the first time they will hear what she had to say.
I saw her on 207 a week ago and thought she came across likable, approachable, and a fresh choice from the other politicians in the race. Don't get me wrong, I probably disagree with a lot of what she stands for, but her message on tv seemed very mainstream. She has to be troublesome to Baldacci's people.
Green conservatives. Yeah. Right.
skf
Scott, there does exist Green conservatives. If there were not we wouldn't have Ogden and LaMArche both in the race. I said when LaMarche announced that she wasn't going after the leftist vote, everything since then has been confirming of that. Whether it is by politically calculated design or whether it's a true shift in Green politics in Maine is debatable but LaMarche stands to draw off as many conservative votes as she drawing votes from the left.
I think she'll be a problem for both Baldacci and who ever wins the Republican primary.
Plus Pat is kind of cute too.
